When I type this into word, it starts a new line after the "Apr" so I'm left
with a huge block of white space up until the next line. I can't find any way
to fix this, and any help is appreciated!

Also, I should probably add, this problem only occurs when I change the font
+ size.

At Calibri size 11 it's fine. Times New Roman size 12 and the problem occurs.

Well, you've got a very long URL that Word is breaking as best it can. You
can help it by inserting No Width Optional Breaks at appropriate break
points to break the URL over several lines.

Suzanne's solution will solve your problem neatly, but you might want to be
aware of another problem... For others, the URL doesn't actually show the
article cited or even a link to it. Instead, it resolves as this prompt:

"Please enter your library ID, barcode, or other ID:"

If you're automatically logged in, you probably haven't been seeing what a
non-affiliated reader will see.
