Word 2008 Crash on Save

Word 2008.

Default Save format .doc

Worked flawlessly until today... Now when I save a new document as .doc
Word crashes.

Saving .docx seems okay.

I've trashed prefs.

I've installed an earlier 'normal' file that has always worked fine.

No luck.

Any ideas?
