Word 2010 Quick style gallery space

Is there a way to have the Quick style gallery be longer-across?

ISTR that in Word 2007 there were maybe 5-6 styles on each line, now in Word
2010 there are only 3 -- which means *lots* of scrolling for something that
is supposed to be "quick". Other than careful style (re-)naming, how can I
get it so the styles I most want to use are in one line? especially if
there's no way to get more than 3 choices on each line? Will QSG get fatter
if I customise the ribbon to have less other-stuff on it? (except that then
I won't be able to *find* any of those other things!)
I don't want to try going through all that customizing if it won't do the
one thing I want.
Thanks.

I've just looked at both Word 2007 and Word 2010 on the same system, same
screen, and I see six Quick Styles in each one. What is displayed is a
function of your screen size (aspect ratio and resolution) and window size.

Of course, you can click the down arrow next to the style gallery to see more styles at the same time (but this "expanded" view will close if you click outside it).

Yes, I know -- but having to do all the extra clicks (compared to having
more-across) *every time* is a d*** nuisance irritation. I may be in for
some creative re-naming of my most common styles.

I have no idea why I'm getting only 3-across, my system/display isn't that
different from the old one -- it's a bit larger, the same "shape", but I'll
have to check all the settings.

"Upgrading" gives me a headache!
