Word 2013 Insert Symbol (Not Responding)

I'm a law school student with finals looming soon and need to make sure Word works perfectly on my laptop. I need to be able to use certain law-related symbols in the documents I'm writing. Here's the problem:

When I try to Insert > Symbol, Word 2013 hangs up by "Not Responding."

OS: Win 7 Pro
MS Office: 2013

I have had this same problem when I recently installed Office 2013 in my computer. I noticed that nobody had responded to this question, so thought I would post the solution (found on another thread or forum) that seemed to solve my problem. Good luck and hope it works for you!

You may also try disabling the hardware acceleration for Word:

Open the Word program.

  • Click on file, Options.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Under the Display section, check the box for 'Disable hardware graphics acceleration'.
  • Click ok.
