I cannot type a new document with single line spacing - on 'enter', cursor
jumps down multiple lines.
How do I get back 'Normal' line spacing?

Boy do you have an old version of Word (1994) out of Office 4.3.

Check the settings in Format, Paragraphs for Spacing before and after and
also Line Spacing. All should be set to 0 pt or Single.

Let us know if this is not the solution to your problem.
