Word 97 - Access 97 Mail Merge - OLE Object

M

Martin Provencal

I've seen several postings about this problem through out the
newsgroups but none of the info solves my problem. I'm running W2K
with Word 97 and Access 97, both with SR-2 installed. I'm trying to
create a mail merge document for printing employee badges. Fields
include clock number, first name, last name, middle initial,
supervisor and an OLE Object field (field name: PicField) for the
employee pictures. The pictures are 260x430x16 million color bitmaps.
The picture display fine in Access using a form or a report. When I
create the mail merge document in Word, I've tried the following
syntax:

{INCLUDEPICTURE "{MAILMERGE PicField}"}
{INCLUDEPICTURE "{MAILMERGE PicField}.bmp"}
{INCLUDEPICTURE "C:\\Pics\\{MAILMERGE PicField}"}
{INCLUDEPICTURE "C:\\Pics\\{MAILMERGE PicField}.bmp"}

All curly brackets have been entered using Ctrl+F9. I've tried
manually typing it in and using the dropdown menus. All these give me
a blank image box, even after pressing F9. I also discovered that I
can remove the mail merge information, enter any of the above
commands, and I get the same results, a blank box.

I tried doing this project in Access but the clock number, which is
barcode, has to be rotated 90 degrees, something Access doesn't
support. I found programs to rotate a "label" box in Access but I
need to link a horizontal clock number field to the barcode clock
number and the programs I've found don't support that either.

The employee badges were originally created in Publisher 2000, one at
a time. It seem Publisher 2000 doesn't support mail merging OLE
objects.

Any help, ideas or alternatives would be greatly appreciated. I'm
supposed to have 200 badges created by 10/31/03. HELP!
