Word 97 and Office 2000 on same computer?

I am wondering if Word 97 will run on a computer that has
Office 2000 installed. Is so, does Word 2000 have to be
uninstalled first? I am experiencing a problem where
Word 97 is hogging the computers memory and I recieve an
out of virtual memory error. I am trying to figure out
if this is because I also have Office 2000 installed. I
am running Windows 2000 by the way.
