Word 97 Copy/Paste Not Working

The "copy" (and "cut") functions on a family member's
version of Word 97 don't work. I'm trying to troubleshoot
for her. Anyone heard of this? Any suggestions? If
I "copy" text in another program, like Wordpad, I can
paste in Word. But if I "copy" text in Word itself, when
I try to paste, I get the prompt, 'Not enough memory or
disk space to execute this command.' Which is not the
case - the machine has plenty of memory. I have already
tried re-installing Word. The machine is a Dell Latitude
PCI. Thanks for any help you can offer.

(Note: the program seems to know that text has been
copied: the paste icon comes alive. It just gives and
error prompt when I try to use it.)

I am having similar problems with Word 2002. When it does
paste it will only show some of the text/picture. But
when pasting into excel or powerpoint it works fine. We
have uninstalled and reinstalled the complete office
package and used the word detect/repair. Anyone know what
else we can do? Maybe a registry edit?

Are you pasting into a paragraph with an Exact line height set (Format |
Paragraph)?

It happens with text and pictures no matter the size or
format. It appears to paste but there is little to
nothing display. Like with a picture it only displays
about an 8th of the picture. Weird no?

You have not answered my question. Right-click on the paragraph the picture
is in and choose Paragraph. What is the line spacing set to?

There is no paragraph. This happens with a new document
or one in progress. We are looking into the possiblility
of deleting the standard template (normal.dot)

And my problem is pasting text of any kind in Word, if I
copied or cut the text in Word -- even a single sentence.
The error prompt I get is "there is not enough memory or
disk space to complete the operation."

If the graphic is inserted In Line with Text, it is in a text paragraph. And
if you are using Word 2000 or above (unless you've changed the default
wrapping in Word 2002 or above), then the default wrapping is In Line with
Text. Press Ctrl+* to display nonprinting characters, and you will see a
paragraph mark to the right of your picture.
