Word 97 (.doc) is not a valid win32 application

Recently upgraded to XP profession and MS Word 97 has
been set-up repeatedly. Each time I go to open a
previously saved word file, the response is that
the "file name".doc is not a valid win32 application.

Desperately needing a fix! Thanks in advance.

Try registering Word by using Start, Run and typing in

winword /r

and pressing OK. If that doesn't resolve the problem, are you using Norton
Anti Virus? If so, open NAV and disable the Office Plug-in
