Word 97 double click file and another version of word opens

I have read:
"If you find that Word files do not open in the desired
version of Word when you double-click them in Windows
Explorer, or that when opening them from the Desktop or
Explorer, a series of messages appear claiming that the
file cannot be opened, such as:

"Cannot open C:\My"
"Cannot open "Documents\The"
"Cannot open "Test.doc""

... you need to re-register Word. To fix the problem:

Word 97 and above
Click Start | Run (bottom- left corner of your screen).
In the "Open" box, type:
winword /r

and press Enter. Note that there is a space before the
forward slash"

Unfortunately when I run winword /r or winword /a the
messages says "cannot find winword".

I have XP Home and have uninstalled both Works and Word
2002 now all my file want to open in Wordpad. How do I get
my files to open in Word 97 from Office 97?

Or just

winword /r

which will reregister Word. But this problem may also be caused by the
Office Plug-in in Norton AV.
