Word 97 saves slow Solution!!

Michael Paniak

OK, from the newsgroups that have given me so much, I post this.

Today by quite accident, I found a solution to the Word 97 saves slow
in a networked environment.

We run Office 97 SR-2 in a Windows 2000 environment. Some of our
users get slow saves running as much as a minute to save a document
before they can use word again. Journaling was not on within Outlook
and the machines do not use AOL so those posted solutions were not it.
For several months we have been unable to find a solution.

However, today I went looking for the log that Word seems to say it
created when the dreaded winword.exe error pops up. When I did a
search for that log, I came across this MS Knowledge Base Article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;830354

Well, I tried it on my machine first before putting it on my user's
machine. It did not prevent me from using word at all. I decided to
see if by chance the Word save issue went away. Sure enough, gone.
And you don't have to be a local administrator to run it.

It's only been a couple of hours, but so far the slow save issue has
disappeared.

OH MY FLIPPING WORD! YOU ARE AMAZING!

I have been looking for this answer for 6 months. I had practically
given up and thought I just had to delete and recreate the user
account!

It has worked on every machine I've tried so far.

Many Many Many thanks for posting this solution to Word 97 saving
slowly in Windows 2000.
