Word 97 saving as DOT

Hi,

I am opening a document (.DOC) .. however if I mofidy and
do a save as .. it saves as a .DOT .. and I cant change
the type as it is greyed out.

I have permissions to save on the directory etc..

Following up on Howard's answer, there is a difference between templates and
documents that goes beyond the last three letters (filename extension); they
have a different file structure. If you change the extension of this .doc
file to the correct .dot extension you can double-click on that and create a
document file. Save that file.

Before you go too far with this, though, it sounds like you are really using
your .doc file as a template anyway. You may want to look into templates,
they are a key feature of Word. For more on the different kinds of templates
