word 97 word 2000 conversion problem

I created a docuemtn on wors 2000 saved it to a floppy
and finished the document on word 97 and saved it on the
floppy. Now I cannot open the document on either word
application. Suggestions?

Most likely the file is corrupt because you used a floppy directly
from Word. That's a no-no: see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm.

You may be able to open the file in NotePad and retrieve the text,
which you can then paste into a new blank document and reformat.
That's about the best you can hope for, I'm afraid. If the file is
really badly damaged, you won't be able to open it with any editor.

From now on, work only on the hard drive. Then use Explorer to copy
between the hard drive and the floppy.

That's because you saved it on a floppy. You should never save from Word
directly to a floppy. Always save the HD first, then copy to the floppy.
