Word 98 Virus message

I am running MS Windows 98 and Word 98. When I go into
Word, the file menue comes up normally, but when I ask for
a specific file it locks up and a note appears at the
bottom saying "virus scan requested". I have to turn the
computer off to get clear and it happens each time I try.

However, this does not occur if I double click on the file
from Windows Explorer.

Open Norton Anti Virus and disable the Office Plug-in option.
