Word always crashes when I copy/paste a text box - How to fix pls?

I cannot copy paste text boxes & callouts without Word crashing.

I am using Word 2000 (9.0.27.20).
The documents are long (300+ pages) with lots of screen captures.

It happens in ALL long documents even if I have just rebooted and opened the
doc, but does not USUALLY occur in very short documents.

Can anyone suggest a fix please? (I've checked as many online resources as I
could before writing this).

As a test, trying doing it on another PC -- preferably one with a lot of
RAM. The point being to isolate whether the problem is a) in your Word
installation (in which case, remove it and reinstall), or in your Windows
set-up (repair), or simply lack of computer resources (add more RAM).
