Word and Excel freezes

I'm running Office 2000 on XP Home SP(2). When I go to file open and try to
use the drop down in the file box to change directories, the program
freezes. Happens in Excel and Word.

Any Ideas? I reinstalled Office.

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop, left-click on
Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped drives that are not
currently available.
