Word and Excel loading slowly

Like "Tob", I'm finding that Word and Excel are loading
VERY slowly all of a sudden this morning. I have virus-
checked my C drive and checked to see whether it needs to
be defragmented (it does not), so what's up? This, by
the way, is happening at the same time that Norton Anti-
Virus has detected and deleted 18 e-mails returned to me
yesterday and today so far, with the klez virus on them.

Probably not related. See other posts re: disabling Norton AV Office plug
in. I've had a dozen calls myself on this problem this morning already.

I'm having the same problem all of a sidden, as of about
4:30p.m. yesterday. Can't figure it out. You will find
that they open fine in Safe Mode, which suggests a
Startup item issue, but I have experiemnted with
disabling each of the Startup items and that doesn't help.

Disable the Office Plug-in in Norton Anti Virus.

I have been having this same problem for 18 hours. With
Excel also. After much effort I finally called Microsoft
and paid my $35 - but they gave me a fix which works
perfectly. I am assuming you have XP.

1. Search for officeav.dll
2. In my case I found it within Norton Antivirus.
Change the name to officeav.old
3. Search > Run > %appdata%
4. If you find icons named Normal (I found two of them),
delete them
5. Start > Run > winword.exe /safe (note the space
afte exe)
6. This will open Word in Safe Mode. In my case it
reconfigured all the Office programs and I had to put in
the Office XP Professional disk.

After the reconfiguration, everything worked perfectly.

Let me know of it works for you. I am at
[email protected].
