Word and Exel lock up when I try to change directory

When I try to open a file "MY DOCUMENTS" come up. As soon as I click to
change directory, both WORD and EXCEL lock up, and I have to END PROGRAM to
get the computer back to work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program
OFFICE 2000 Premium but no change.
What can I do?

Two things to try:
1. Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows
desktop, left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect
any mapped drives that are not currently available.
