This might not be the correct forum for this question so apologies if not
....

Is it possible to get a pdf file back into Word format if you only have the
pdf file?

You need a utility that can convert the document back into a Word Document.

If you have the full version of Acrobat you can save as RTF. This will
retrieve all the text and some of the formatting, depending on how complex
the document is.

If you only need to retrieve the text (and no formatting), install a
'generic text printer' on port FILE:. Then print the PDF to that. You will
end up with a .prn file, which is plain text and can be opened in Word.

In addition to the methods suggested, some OCR software - particularly
Finereader - can convert the file to Word format, provided the pdf is
unprotected. If it is protected, then print out the pdf and scan through OCR
software. If it is protected against printing, you will need a screen
capture utility that will capture text - such as the excellent SnagIt.
