Hi Chris,

Although it may appear random there is usually some common occurrence
such as a word is being automatically corrected (AutoCorrect), a word
triggered as misspelled, Save, Print, AutoRecovery save is preformed,
cut, copy, paste, etc.

Try to pinpoint what is happening exactly when the error occurs.

For example I've encountered this type of error during an AutoRecovery
save. Go to Tools/Options/Save and note the interval. I've also found
that the Status bar will still display the "Saving AutoRecovery...."
when it crashes.

We also need the version of Word you are using the patches you have
installed, go to Help/About to find this information, and your
operating system.

Second, since you have been experiencing multiple crashes it's a good
idea to do a little housekeeping and delete any temp files that may
have been permanently written.

If you are unsure of how to delete temp files:

* Exit Word and Outlook if you are using it as your email editor
* Go to Start/Find/Files or Folders
* Change "Look in" to reflect the drive/folder that the file you are
trying to open is stored in
* In the Named text box, type *.tmp
* Click the "Find Now" command
* Delete all temp files you find

Repeat the steps for Owner files: ~$*.do?

Note that these can be deleted directly from the Find Results.

To group the files for a single deletion:

* Click the first file in the list
* Press and hold <Shift>
* Click the last file in the list.

For more information on this and a full cleanup/maintenance procedure
that should be ran periodically, see this article:
