Word application 'unexpectedly' quits

I open word and if I don't keep typing and saving every few
seconds I get the message "Word has unexpectedly quit."
I deleted the preferences, reloaded Office from the CD and
it is still having this problem. Very frustrated!

Does this message display in a message box?

Does the error occur if you start Word using the /a switch? Go to
Start/Run and run:

winword /a

Note the space before the forward slash.
