Word Art Formatting??? Help

I don't understand why I cannot format any Word Art. I know how to format and
I can do it for everything else except with that. But on my bf's desktop (on
my computer) it works on his. Is there an option that I need to turn on or
what? Someone help. I can't figure this one out.
