word as mail format

I am unable to tick the box to use word as default mail editor in outlook
2003 as it is greyed out. Any suggestion as to how to access it.

Outlook and Word MUST be the same version for the integration features
to work. Okay, you have Outlook 2003 as you mentioned. You did not
mention which version of Word that you use.
