Word automatic line creation

Stan G.

After typing a few lines I'll put in a series of stars (editorial requirement). I have no problem when I do this.

Dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
Ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
Dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
****************

If I hit the return key following the last * the entire line converts to a series of very small blocks that run the length of the page. Even if I eliminate the words before and after the line, it reappears in the next paragraph. I've checked for viruses and even reloaded my Word 97 program. The same problem repeats. I'm using XP. Any suggestions?

Yes, this is weird. To override the blocks, try hitting
the space bar after the last star. When you press return,
all should work well. Works for me, anyway!

Thanks Kate, It worked! Now the problem is how to get rid
of the unwanted lines I created. Any suggestions?
