word can not open this file

Assuming it is a Word 2007 file, save a copy of the file and rename the
..docx to .zip. You can try going in and deleting some of the photos or lower
the resolution. I am also assuming you have a lot of huge photos in there. I
have no idea why you need a file that's anywhere near that size.

I was converting a pdf book into txt file.

I would suggest only converting a few pages at a time. Heaven only knows the
kind of bloat is in that file.
