Upon saving and then closing a document (size 62762 characters, 64 pages)
from within Word 2007, I receive the following error messages:

"Microsoft Office Word is trying to recover your information . . ." "Word
cannot open the file ~WRS{DA3C5CDD-443D-4AA5-B8BC-6C690971DF24}.tmp. If the
file is stored on your computer, there may be a problem with your hardware.
If the file is stored on the network, there may be a problem with the network
connection. If you can copy the file, try saving the file in another location
and opening it there." "Microsoft Office Word has stopped working. A
problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the
program and notify you if a solution is available." "Microsoft Word is
Restarting"

The document is stored locally on the laptop. It is a document that I have
added to/modified on a weekly basis over the past year without any problems.
I now receive this error message (with the name of the file different) each
time I open the document and close it. Thus far this is the only document
that causes this problem.

I uninstalled Microsoft Office and reinstalled it to no effect. Microsoft
Office Diagnostics found no problems.

Try the following steps

Click on "Start" button and click "RUN".
In the dialog box, type "regedit" and click "OK".
In Regedit navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
Then rename the folder called 'data' to 'olddata' and also remane the folder
called 'options' to 'oldoptions'.

It suggests that the document is badly corrupted. Use a COPY of the
document, open it in Word and then use SaveAs and choose XML. Close it and
Word. Then open Word and the XML document and use SaveAs choosing DOCX
format again. Does that sort it out?

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, after implementing your
suggestion I still encounter the same problem.
