This should probably be cross posted on the Server 2000 side, but I will
start here.
Have a 2000 Pro Client and 2000 Standard server. Word 2000 with ALL service
packs installed. Randomly, when someone is working in a word document that
has ALREADY been initially saved they click on either the Save Icon button,
or goto File Save and get a message that due to file permissions word is
unable to save changes. Now...strange thing is that I am 1000% sure it is
not file permissions. I'm the Administrator. I have 3 computers doing this
out of 60 total.
Things I have tried have been uninstalling and reinstalling Office. Detect
and Repair, replacing the normal template.
Now...the odd thing is that when it asks if I want to attempt to save it
again...if I answer No...then hit save again...it comes up with the same
error...but this time it says can't save ~w4894k.tmp or whatever the tmp file
for the document is...
Now...I have even tried when this happens to hit Save As and save it to the
desktop. Same error. Question I have is that since the document was saved
on the server initially...they opened it...started working. Now...when I do
save as and attempt to save it somewhere else, I'm assuming that the reason I
still get the error is because the temp file on the server is still located
there until the save is completed the file is closed. Next question is has
anyone seen Microsoft Indexing server causing this kind of problem?
