WORD- changing 1 textbox changes several others ??? Wierd

Hi
Word 2003
I have never seen anything this crazy before:
I have many drawings in my Word doc.
In one particular drawing, I have a "box" with some text boxes within.
Now, I don't recall if this (mystery) "box" was created origianlly as
a rectangle or a text box .When right clicking it says "format
autoshape" so perhaps that means it is a rectangle rather than a text
box.

At any rate, there are several text boxes within and I can change text
seperately in each one except one troublesome area.
Actually, there is text in the middle of this "box" that behaves very
very odd. (this is the troublesome area)
If I try to edit the text, I can never see the I beam in there on the
text, but deleting and typing affects the text.
Then I deleted all the text and then, I tryed to create another text
box in the same drawing. Pow! Whatever I type into the new text box,
overwrites the text in the middle of the (mystery) "box"
Furthermore, there is another drawing 15 pages down whose text is also
affected by the creation of the new text box? What ever I type into
the new text box OR the location of the original text in the (mystery)
"box" also shows up down below in the other drawing !!

What the heck? It seems there are magic places in the doc that are all
connected. What could be causing this and how can I find and remove
this invisible mysterious link between boxes ?

Wow
Thanks
Jeff

Your all stumped?

I just found yet another drawing that is also responding to any entry
made in the new text box next to the mystery box.

Sounds like you put a few text boxes into a canvas, and then started
dragging stuff around. Only a guess, as I wasn't there watching what you
did.

See "Ungroup" under the Draw menu?

Well I do put text boxes on a canvas and I probably moved them around.
Would this affect other drawings?
What if I copied one canvas and pasted to create another. Is the copy
somehow linked to the original. I have done that from time to time.

I checked group/ungroup over and over. None of these objects are
grouped at all.

Thanks again
Jeff
