Word changing dates in documents

Office 2003 Professional. I just started reading some old journal pages
I wrote in May of 2002. When I glanced up to see when these entries were
made, instead of the date of the entry, all three entries were today's date!
How do I keep Word from changing dates in documents that need to have the
original dates?

The DATE field inserts the current date. Each time a document is opened, the
DATE field is updated to reflect the "current" current date.

You should use the CreateDate field;
since the CreateDate field marks the date that a document was CREATED, that
field will not change.

Apparently when the document was created the creator clicked
Insert, Date and Time in Word. In the same window as the
format of the date is a check box which causes the field to
update to the current date automatically. If this was set
when the document was created, it will continue to update
automatically each time the document is opened. It will do
no good to turn it off now. You would have to delete the
date field and then reinsert the correct date in the space
created.

The suggestion from Og may work but I have a distinct
problem with this since I have documents on my system that
have a modified date older than a create date. The modified
date is July 20, 2005 while the create date is December 19,
2005 as shown in Properties/General tab in Word.
