Word closes after a few minutes of opening

I use office 2000 pro and Windows XP home. Whenever i open word it loads up
and the office assistant loads but then it just closes. No error message
nothing. Its really frustrating coz i use it for work.

I just updated my office software to XP and it still didnt work but later
realised that the printer connected to the network i am on was the problem so
i disconnected the printer (we have two printers) and then discovered that
the software was on the server and didnt need to be on my computer and so now
i can open word and print via the server.
