WORD closes immediately.

Every time I try to open WORD, it will open to "Document
1" for a few seconds. Then the error message appears with
the "contacting Microsoft" message. It will then shut down.
I am using Office 2000 on an XP machine. I've been doing
so for two years with no problems.
Help please.
