Word Closes, when switching between documents

When I have multiple Word documents open and move between
them, after the third or fourth switch Word closes all
documents with no error message given. I have lost a lot
of work. I'm running Windows XP with Office XP
professional with SP3. I also am running McAfee with the
latest virus definitions. This is a new problem this week
and haven't installed any new software.

It is possible that you are running low on system resources if you have
multiple instances of Word open.

I don't think so. I have 512M of Ram, and it can happen
when I only have 2 or 3 small word documents open.
Any help appreciated.

Here's a possible solution from Office MVP Beth Melton:

I suspect you've encountered a bug in the Handwriting Recognition
services. Try the following:

- Open your Control Panel
- Open Regional and Language Settings
- Select the Language tab
- Click Details
- Remove Handwriting Recognition
