Word count problem

I have a large document in Word 2003 that I had built up
to around 106,000 words, then condensed down to about
80,000 words. Now whenever I ask word to do a word count
it the dialog box shows the (expected) count of 86k, then
instantly changes to 106k words. Does anyone know how I
can "reset" the number of words Word thinks I have?

Try to SelectAll and copy/paste into a new document. Under Tools, Options,
Save tab, make sure that FastSaves is deselected.
