Word crash at startup -- I've tried everything in the FAQ

U

user

I have Windows XP and Office 2000 SR-1.

All other office applications start fine.

When I try to start Word, it shows the opening screen, then I get the
microsoft error report screen.

When I try to start Word with winword.exe /a, Word comes up fine. But it
crashes without the /a.

I have removed everything from my startup directory. I have gone so far
as to rename every *.dot file on my computer to *.old.

I have disabled the NAV plugin.

I have made sure I have the latest version of the Adobe reader.

I have made sure I have no COM plugins.

I have removed the "Data" registry key.

Thanks in advance for your help!

My Word and Excel stopped working on my Windows XP Pro, MS
Word 2000, and now I use textshield.exe which I found free
in Google. It does better than Word on Windows XP Pro.
