Word Crash Saving as Doc File

Word 2008 will always crash if you try to save the first document document you create as a doc file without first saving it as a docx file. It happens every time. If you save as a docx and then doc, you're OK.

I have also been very frustrated by my NEW Word 08 crashing all the time, but did not pick up a pattern. I tried doing what you described above, but it did not cause a crash. Has anyone else been having trouble with Word 08 crashing excessively?

Any solutions?

Yes, everyone is having those problems. It's a lot worse on OS 10.5.2.
It's actually reasonably stable on OS 10.4. (Excel isn't, but Word is...)

There's a Service Release due out on March 11th which will hopefully solve a
lot of these problems.

No solutions, other than "wait".

I've not seen any indication in your previous posts of which version of Mac
OS you're running or your type of Mac, but perhaps this will help.
Regardless of whether you already have done so or not:

Run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions then restart your Mac.

If it still presents the problem please provide details of exactly what
happens, exactly when it happens as well as the exact wording in any
messages that appear in addition to the missing info mentioned above.
