word crashes on exit & also while running

I run word on windows XP and have just started having
problems with Word crashing - even with samll files.
Have done virus check -no issues there & have also done
critical upgrades/downloads suggested by Microsoft but
still persisits- also when trying to close word and hit
Crtl-alt0del- and task manager comes up there are 2
copies of the file running that I am trying to clos
can anyone HELP ??????????
