WORD CRASHES ON SAVE!!!!!!!!!!

Word crashes when we attempt to save a new document,
tried all the basic troubleshooting steps with no help.
The PCs are on a network, clients running XP Pro, 2000
Advanced server, Word XP with latest updates.
