Word crashes whenever I save a document

I'm running Word 2002 on Windows XP, and it's developed the problem that
whenever I try and save a document I get "Microsoft Word has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
It happens with any document. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.
I've tried downloading all the updates and patches I can find. What can I do
to make Word usable again?

I am having the same problem with Word 2003. I have tried:
- uninstalling and reinstalling
- Clearing Enable Office Plug-in - Norton Antivirus
- renaming the Normal.dot file
- Help menu detect and repair
- dumped windows registry key
Still not saving, gives same error. Any help is much appreciated.

No, I'm just trying to save to the desktop. Sometimes a 'saved' document
does appear there, but it has a size of 0kb and Word doesn't recognize it
when I try and open it again.
