Hello Owen,
This is most likely a driver that is being started by another application.
It's possible that it might also be a template or add-in that is being
loaded. Check the Startup folder in the Office folder. You may want to move
any files in that folder to a temporary folder and test the application.
The intermittency of the issue seems to suggest another application running
or possibly a driver that is sometimes loaded. If you have Norton Antivirus
running the file Officeav.dll can cause problems with Office applications.
You might locate and rename that file and test the issue. If you need more
assistance you should include more details on what happens and the dll's or
files causing the issue.
