Have you tried updating to the latest version?

According to that log, your version of Office is the original shipping version (12.0.0). Updating to the latest version (12.1.7) may fix the issue.

tried downloading updated version but now getting following error message:

Macintosh HD 100GB available 232 GB Total
You cannot install Office 2008 SP1 Update (12.1.0) on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume.
