Word crashing on start up...

I've done a lot to try and figure this issue out and nothing has
worked. I really don't expect an answer, and just having to reinstall
OS...

When I start the application I get an immediate error, "WINWORD.exe has
generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to
restart the program.". This only happens on one user account.

Here are some diagnostics that I've done...

1) deleted all normal.dot files,
2) deleted tempory/user files in application data for said user.
3) repaired office
4) uninstall/reinstalled office
5) ran MSCONFIG (stolen from an XP box), and disabled some startup
applications and started up in diagnostic mode.

This last one actually worked!! But clearly, I don't know why. Driver
conflict from recent update? I don't see this being a conflict with
word though...

box details:
Windows 2000 professional, Microsoft Word 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1) included
with Microsoft Office Professional, and lastly... I don't have winfax.
Thank you.
