word crashing

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I've had Microsoft Office on my MacBook for over a year now, and in the past week, Word has started mysteriously crashing. I take notes on my computer during class, so it's a big problem when the program crashes on me. Any ideas or suggestions on what can be done to fix this? I haven't noticed any certain triggers that make it crash- it seems pretty random.

The 2 most common causes of crashes while the program is in use are:

a) Need of repairing disk permissions, &

b) Lack of necessary updates (both Office & OS X)

Tend to those housekeeping chores & see if the problem continues. Let us
