As editorial assistant for a journal, I receive Word files which have to be
sent to the printer as raw text. No matter what we say to the authors, they
cannot resist putting figures, tables, symbols etc into their text - which
messes up the printing and causes hours of proof reading and changes.
Is there a macro which will remove all the formatting, and non-text
insertions?
The Word "clear formatting" command does only a partial job, and leaves many
bits in place including some hidden ones which have to be picked out manually
once the page proofs come back. Electronic nit-picking, and it would be nice
not to deal with these bugs.
Has anyone devised a set of instructions for Word users who (like me!) do
not know how to make a clean text? It is so easy to use the powerful
facilities that muck up the next stage where simplicity is needed. A recent
paper used a graphical minus sign that was lost in translation and has to be
found and re-entered on the proofs, ca 20 occurrences.
I am using XPsp2 and Word 2002 (and WP12), but contributors use a variety of
Words, and other word processors.
Thank you for any advice. At the moment, it is almost quicker to use paper
copy which is then rekeyed in.
