Word Dialogue Boxes are sluggish

Whenever I try to open or save a document in word 2002 the dialogue box freezes up for about 20-30 seconds. Specifically when I click on the drop down box or I click on one of the folders to open it, it takes a long time to repond. This is the same for all the Office applications. Everything else on the computer runs smoothly. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thank you in advance

Possibly you have a bad FTP Link in the target folder or, if this is a
network drive, you are using mapped drives instead or UNC paths under Tools,
Options, file Locations.

Make sure that your paths are all valid, there's no redundant drives mapped
and there are no rogue entries in the folders.
