Word doc is listed as Wordpad doc in My Documents. Why?

A Word doc I am working on has started appearing in the My Documents folder
as a Wordpad doc. I have tried to import it as a File into Word, and also cut
and paste its contents from Wordpad into Word, but the resulting docs still
are listed as Wordpad docs.

If I open it from My Documents, it opens in Wordpad. If I open it from Word,
it opens and the Word toolbars are there. Weird. Tried to Save As in Word,
but it always reverts to wordpad.

Help!!!

Windows only SHOWS what it believes to be true. What you need to do is
re-associate DOC files as Word documents. See Associate the File Types:
