Word doc unreadable

The letter was created in Office 2000...Word.

It was changed to another style then changed back to a sans font. When it
was changed back it was lines of little squares and stuff.

No matter which font is selected now it stays like this. Any ideas, as this
is a business document.

thank you. Is that extension .vba? And is that run from the desktop while the
Word document is open with text selected?
