For posting a resume online, it is accepted only in .txt or .doc format. How can I save the document so that the receiver only has view access.
I am saving the document as Microsoft 97-2004 because of compatibility issues.

Password protect is not an option as this is being posted on several job sites.

PDF format is not accepted either. What is the best way to resolve this.

Thank you.

About the only option is to use Word> Preferences> Security for applying a
Password to Modify. Any one can open the file as Read Only but can't edit it
unless they have the password.

Keep in mind that there is literally no way to prevent anyone from
reproducing *any* document (including PDFs) to which they're given access.
They can still copy/paste to a new doc or Save As to create a copy with
which they can do with whatever they wish - including giving it the same
name as & replacing the original password protected copy.

You can't solve this problem.

If they can "read" it, they can "re-type" it (or copy-paste it...).

So there's nothing you can do to prevent them from changing it. If you save
from Word PC, you can attach a digital signature. But if you do, they will
not be able to read it on the Mac.

I think you will simply have to trust them :)

What *I* do is print three copies of my resume and take it to the interview
with me.

Head-hunters ALWAYS fiddle around with the resume, no matter how many times
you tell them not to. And usually screw up the formatting when they do.
Which is the kiss of death if you are applying for roles that require expert
Word use, such as a technical writer role :)

Take your own copies to the interview, and hand it to the interviewers :)

Cheers
