Word docs appear in code

My partner has a seperate log-on to myself. All her documents now open in
code. Here is a sample:

What is it and how do I convert it back to readable English?

Hi Chad,

Looks like comressed files (ZIP files) opened up directly, or maybe
encrypted files from a password protected drive?
Probably a question for a Windows group, more likely than a Word problem.

Thanks Klaus, but definitely not Zip files and she wouldn't know how to
encrypt or set a password. Whatever it is, it has affected all her files
inc. photographs. This A.M. she opened a spreadsheet - complete
gobbledegook. Had a copy on a flash drive, copied it over & overwrote
version on hard drive, used that. Checked it just now (approx 6 hours later)
still functioning normally.
Oh well back to the giggle factory.
