word docs not resolving in IE

I have a problem with word docs as well as .TIFF's not resolving in HTML
pages. I tried re loading the web components but it did not fix the problem.
When I try to open a document in IE all I get is a little red/blue picture
in the upper left hand corner of the web page.
Anyone got any Ideas ......
