Word Document Completely Disappears From My Computer

I use Microsoft Word 2003. I've had a document I've been using to make weekly
entries since March, so I had saved the document every week without problems.
Today after I finished writing, I clicked on the save icon and it brought up
a box that said something like "WR.....~" can't be saved, which I believe was
the .TMP file. The document wouldn't let me do anything else, so I clicked
"Retry" a few times, but that didn't help anything, so I clicked on the only
other box which was "Cancel." When I clicked cancel, microsoft word closed
completely and the original file and temp file are completely gone from my
harddrive. It's not in the trash, it doesn't show up in the recovery
management box, and I've searched for it. I've never encountered anything
like this, so I just wondered if anyone else knows the cause to prevent it
from ever happening again, and of course to see if there's some way to find
the file.

Just an update in case any MVP or anyone knows what could be causing this
problem. Another document did the same thing today the specific file that it
said couldn't be read was ~WRL1118.TMP When I clicked the "save" icon it
brought the box up saying that file couldn't be read and then closed
microsoft word completely and the file disappeared.

I'm wondering if this may be a case that your temp folder is crammed full of
abandoned temp files or maybe you have a hard disk problem.

Start by closing all applications and then finding your temp file. Delete
everything in there as the temp file is what it says and it should be empty
when all apps are closed.

I then suggest that you set Windows to do a full check disk on reboot and
see if the structure is OK.

Let us know how you get on. If you need further help, please give us some
details about your OS and if you have everything patched fully up to date,
etc.
